Ever since turning 24 in February I’ve been rewriting my life mantras. I’ve been learning a lot about myself and establishing what matters most to me in this world then separating those from what I think might be toxic. For example:

Things that are toxic: Neglecting to purchase something that you’re personally drawn to because you think other people won’t respond to them the same way you do. I struggled with this for a long time. I was constantly asking myself “What if people think I look weird?” and then hesitantly putting that pair of metallic harem pants back on the rack.

Things that are not toxic: Allowing yourself to buy whatever the hell you want because you’re an independent person who doesn’t just follow trends, but instead sets them. Trends like METALLIC SILVER PLATFORMED SHOES.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced love at first sight in the way that I did when I sleepily stumbled across these babies on Shopbop one night around my birthday.

I’d been feeling very blasé about many of the styles I’d been scrolling through, but these oxfords by Opening Ceremony could not have made me feel any more alive. I was in love. I constantly admired and talked about them for two weeks before my friends got tired of hearing me obsess over them and urged me to buy them…so I did.

They’re grungy. They’re minimal. They’re shiny. They’re PERFECT. One small step for my closet, one giant step for me serving Xenon: Girl of the 21st Century realness.

New Life Mantra #2: Do you. Wear whatever you want because YOU like it. Be fearless. Feel flawless.

Buying these shoes wasn’t just a sporadic chasse into my spring wardrobe, but a step deeper into my identity. Every time I wear them I feel fiercely confident and undeniably myself. Who cares if people like them or not? They aren’t wearing the shoes – I am.

There have been a few key elements that have been super definitive of my fall style this season:
  • Texture (Does it look like it feels cool? Fuzzy is the new black)
  • Proportion (Unexpected shapes makes outfits interesting)
  • Athluxe (A word I learned in fashion school that means making gym clothes chic)
  • Turtlenecks (10 y.o. me would be mortified)
Neutrals (Sometimes when I’m feeling crazy I wear taupe)
As we transition into the most frigid part of the year my layering holds promise of being even MORE unflattering than the 3 jacket minimum I’ve already started to employ.

Travel Day

Travel Day

No matter how excited I am for a trip, packing is something I tend to procrastinate on. Somehow or another it ends up being the night before an early departure and I am scrambling to figure out where sandal number two is in the pair that I must take along with me.

Though the above scenario has happened more times than I’d like to admit, that isn’t the case for next week’s adventure; I’ve been day dreaming about what’s going in that suitcase for weeks. I’ve been picking up bits and pieces here and there to be at a Beyonce level of put together, while still being sensible for all day walking in the hot sun.

Staples? A comfortable pair of cotton pants, lace up sandals that don’t side around, basic tops to mix and match, and a hat for shade on demand.

So excited to share everything with you all!

Speak to you soon,

Last night I was inspiration hunting for a photoshoot I have the privilege of styling today. The story I developed for the shoot is titled “Runaways in San Tropez.

[PICTURE THIS]: It’s the 1990’s. Three Parisian twenty-somethings longing for a holiday at the sea finally escape the buzz of the city by fleeing to the south of France. They desperately want to fit in with the effortless elegance of the glamazons gracing San Tropez with their presence, but no matter how hard they try they can’t completely subdue their draw to all things grunge.

I want it be a juxtaposition of the glamourous style of the sixties (think: Audrey Hepburn) with, say, the staple styles of the 90’s (Drew Barrymore & Kate Moss circa 1994). Thus, when I ran across these Zara lookbooks (both their women’s line and their Trufaluc line) I was truly smitten.

(I should’ve just called this post Parentheses)

The silhouettes of these looks aren’t only something I hope to channel in my styling today, but also in my personal styling throughout the upcoming seasons. It’s hard to go wrong with solid colored, staple pieces…especially cropped ones. The whole Parisian closet movement is about all those things? Right?

The nineties shouldn’t be a period of fashion that we shake our heads at, but instead one that we nod to with a peep of skin, a good cut and a straight, maybe even slightly oversized, silhouette.

I, on the other hand, will be striving to look like a member of the Babysitter’s Club at all times. If you guessed Claudia, you’re right.
